Assessment of strain and mechanical dyssynchrony indices in single ventricle populations by cardiac magnetic resonance feature-tracking techniques

چکیده
Background Single ventricle (SV) physiology consists of a single pumping chamber that provides both systemic and pulmonary blood flow. The typical quantitative measurements of ventricular function (i.e. ejection fraction) cannot be accurately applied to single ventricles due to abnormal ventricular morphology. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) has become a leading diagnostic tool in the assessment of ventricular mechanics in patients with abnormal ventricular morphology. CMR feature-tracking (FT) techniques allow for the analysis of circumferential strain (εcc), longitudinal strain (εll), and mechanical dyssynchrony indices (MDI). We hypothesize that evidence of declining εcc, εll, and MDI by CMR will be a early biomarker of ventricular dysfunction in SV patients.

Quantitative assessment of left ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony using cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging: Inter-study reproducibility
OBJECTIVES To determine the inter-study reproducibility of left ventricular (LV) mechanical dyssynchrony measures based on standard cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) cine images. DESIGN Steady-state free precession (SSFP) LV short-axis stacks and three long-axes were acquired on the same day at three time points. Circumferential strain systolic dyssynchrony indexes (SDI), area-SDI as we...
متن کاملFeature tracking measurement of dyssynchrony from cardiovascular magnetic resonance cine acquisitions: comparison with echocardiographic speckle tracking
BACKGROUND Analysis of left ventricular (LV) mechanical dyssynchrony may provide incremental prognostic information regarding cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) response in addition to QRS width alone. Our objective was to quantify LV dyssynchrony using feature tracking post processing of routine cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) cine acquisitions (FT-CMR) in comparison to speckle tr...
متن کاملFeature-tracking cardiovascular magnetic resonance as a novel technique for the assessment of mechanical dyssynchrony.
BACKGROUND Myocardial tagging using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is the gold-standard for the assessment of myocardial mechanics. Feature-tracking cardiovascular magnetic resonance (FT-CMR) has been validated against myocardial tagging. We explore the potential of FT-CMR in the assessment of mechanical dyssynchrony, with reference to patients with cardiomyopathy and healthy controls....
متن کاملRight Ventricular Strain and Dyssynchrony Assessment in Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy: Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Feature-Tracking Study.
BACKGROUND Analysis of right ventricular (RV) regional dysfunction by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in arrhythmogenic RV cardiomyopathy (ARVC) may be inadequate because of the complex contraction pattern of the RV. Aim of this study was to determine the use of RV strain and dyssynchrony assessment in ARVC using feature-tracking CMR analysis. METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty-two consecuti...

UNLABELLED There have been numerous studies focusing on the assessment of left ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony. These studies are diverse in their purposes, which include more effectively predicting the response to cardiac resynchronization therapy, improving the guidance of the left ventricular lead position, and better prediction of outcome in patients with heart failure. This article rev...
